5 Tips for Maintaining Your Car and Keeping it Running Smoothly
No one wants to have to deal with a car that won't start, or one that is constantly running rough.
1. Regularly check your oil and lube the moving parts of your car. This should be part of your routine maintenance schedule. I recommend changing the oil every 3000 miles or so to ensure your vehicle stays in top condition. * On most cars you will need to remove the dipstick from the engine. Place it in a safe place so you won't lose it.
2. Inspect your tires regularly * Inspect your tread depth and air pressure regularly
3. Keep your gas tank at least half full The reason that gas goes bad is because of the presence of bacteria. When gas sits around for a long time, the gas gives off some moisture. The moisture encourages bacterial growth. When the gas becomes old, it becomes acidic. This acid can corrode the lining of the tank, causing leaks. So always make sure you keep some gas in the tank to avoid these problems. *Make sure you don't overfill the tank as this can also cause problems! *
4. Check your fluid levels frequently • Keep the engine fluids topped up, including water, coolant, and oil. • Check the radiator for signs of leakage or damage; be sure to replace the radiator cap if necessary. • Check the level of brake fluid in the reservoir; if the level is low, it should be refilled immediately. • Check the windshield washer fluid reservoir weekly and add distilled water when needed. • Always keep a bottle of spare coolant handy; any damage to your cooling system can be repaired quickly and easily when you have access to extra coolant.
5. Clean your car's exterior and interior + Wash and wax the exterior of your vehicle on a regular basis to prevent paint damage and to protect the finish from oxidation. + Vacuum the interior to remove dirt, debris, and other harmful materials that can cause damage to your car's interior. + Change the cabin air filters as needed to prevent dirt and debris from entering the vehicle's ventilation system and causing damage. + If your car has leather upholstery, be sure to clean it with a leather cleaner to prevent cracking, fading, and staining. *Change your own oil and oil filter regularly! * Don't forget to change your wiper blades! Don't forget to get regular tune-ups for your car to help prevent major repairs and engine problems down the road! Car maintenance may seem overwhelming at first, but it doesn't have to be difficult or expensive. Follow these simple steps to take care of your car and prevent costly repairs in the future.
